Parenting Tips from AHPS

Practical guidance our teachers and counsellors share with AHPS families throughout the school year.

As exams grow more competitive, children can crumble under pressure if the stress builds up unchecked. A few small habits at home go a long way toward keeping study time calm and productive.

  • Offer a calm, conducive environment rather than hovering over every task
  • Keep meals comforting — good food supports a good mood
  • Avoid distracting entertainment during your child's study hours
  • Motivate them to beat their own previous best, not anyone else's
  • Keep a doubts notebook and review it together each evening
  • Build a realistic, written timetable well before exams begin

Self-study means learning independently, without direct supervision — and it's one of the most valuable habits a student can build.

  • Broadens thinking and builds independent judgement
  • Gives freedom to explore beyond the prescribed textbook
  • Builds a strong, lasting work ethic
  • Encourages responsibility and ownership of learning

A short break every hour or so keeps focus fresh — the goal is a steady, sustainable rhythm, not marathon sessions.

Small, consistent involvement at home makes a real difference to how children experience school.

  • Build a partnership with teachers — attend PTMs and stay in touch
  • Set up a dedicated, distraction-free homework space and routine
  • Show a positive attitude toward school and learning at home
  • Encourage reading, curiosity, and independent decision-making
  • Celebrate achievements, however small, and focus on strengths
  • Monitor screen time and encourage your child to voice opinions and feelings openly
Student Wellbeing

"People who love themselves don't hurt other people."

CBSE research identifies bullying as a major concern in school settings — whether direct, through physical or verbal abuse, or indirect, through rumours and exclusion. AHPS treats prevention and early intervention as equally important, and asks parents to partner with us on both.

Anti-bullying and student wellbeing campaign poster at AHPS
Why Children Bully
  • Underlying feelings of insecurity
  • Not recognising that teasing based on difference is unacceptable
  • An ongoing pattern of defiant or aggressive behaviour
  • Exposure to aggression or unkindness at home
How Parents Can Help
  • Make clear that bullying is never tolerated, at home or elsewhere
  • Model respectful, non-violent responses to conflict
  • Encourage friendships through activities outside school
  • Talk to teachers and counsellors early if you notice warning signs
